She saw the knight in the mirror at sunset…

…and so begins a richly enchanting novel from World Fantasy Award Winner Patricia A. McKillip.  The acclaimed author of Song for the Basilisk weaves a beautiful, entrancing fantasy of a powerful knight who must follow the threads of reality and illusion to the truth…

During the wedding festivities of the king, Cyan Dag, a knight of Gloinmere, is sought out by a mysterious bard and told a terrifying tale: that the king has married a false queen – a lie cloaked in ancient and powerful sorcery.   Spurred on by his steadfast honor and loyalty, Cyan departs on a dangerous quest to rescue the real queen from her tower prison, to prevent war, and to awaken magic in a land that has lost its way…

Love this. Reread it many times, something about this author, her husbands influence perhaps, I’ve always found them dreamy and haunting. And I normally don’t read fantasy…but these ah…

    But.
It mentions food quite a bit, and I’d love the recipes. For instance:
Tiny potatoes roasted crisp, filled with cheese and onions and chive….Google doesn’t give me anything except baked stuffed potato, not the same thing at all!
